The vibrant city of Winter Garden was officially incorporated in 1908 after thriving for decades as a premier agricultural town focused on citrus cultivation. Situated along the southern shores of Lake Apopka, its bustling commercial district became a vital regional hub for packaging and shipping fruit via major historical rail lines. Following the decline of the citrus industry, the town completely revitalized its historic assets, transforming its old railroad corridor into a world-famous model for urban redevelopment. Today, the absolute top attraction is the historic Downtown Winter Garden district, a beautifully preserved, brick-paved avenue lined with unique boutiques, craft breweries, and the popular Plant Street Market. The city is highly celebrated for the West Orange Trail, a paved 22-mile multi-use pathway that cuts directly through the downtown center and draws cyclists from across the nation. Popular activities include cycling along the scenic rail-trail, dining at indoor artisanal food halls, browsing the award-winning weekly farmers market, and watching live theater at the historic Garden Theatre. Geographically, Winter Garden is located 25 miles northwest of Orlando International Airport (MCO). It is situated approximately 35 miles southwest of Orlando Sanford International Airport (SFB). The drive to the primary theme park entertainment layout at Disney Springs is a short 14 miles via the State Road 429 corridor. Beachgoers can access the coast at Cocoa Beach, located approximately 65 miles away via State Road 528.
