The scenic city of Clermont was founded in 1884 and officially incorporated in 1916, established by the Clermont Improvement Company as a beautiful, elevated citrus-growing settlement named after the birthplace of a prominent manager from France. Nestled among rolling hills and a vast chain of freshwater lakes, the community quickly became an agricultural stronghold before shifting into a world-renowned destination for elite sports training and active outdoor lifestyles. Today, the premier attraction is the historic 1956 Citrus Tower, a soaring 226-foot architectural landmark providing breathtaking panoramic views across the Central Florida ridge landscape and distant theme parks. The community is also highly celebrated for its Waterfront Park, a pristine municipal destination resting on the shores of Lake Minneola that anchors competitive triathlons and rowing championships. Popular things to do include hiking or biking the challenging, hilly clay trails of the hills, wakeboarding across the Palatlakaha River system, tasting local wines at regional vineyards, and training at world-class athletic facilities. Logistically, Clermont sits approximately 31 miles west of Orlando International Airport (MCO). It is located roughly 48 miles southwest of Orlando Sanford International Airport (SFB). Accessing the primary dining and resort entertainment center at Disney Springs requires a drive of 22 miles via US Highway 27 and State Road 429. The closest Atlantic shoreline point is Cocoa Beach, situated a 72-mile drive to the east.
