The city of Winter Park was founded in 1887 as a winter resort haven for wealthy northern industrialists seeking refuge from freezing winters. It was carefully designed around a chain of pristine lakes, which remain a central feature of the community’s geography and charm. Education became a foundational pillar early on with the establishment of Rollins College in 1885, making it the oldest recognized college in Florida. Today, the premier attraction is the upscale Park Avenue District, a cobblestone street lined with luxury boutiques, acclaimed restaurants, and vibrant sidewalk cafes. Art lovers frequently visit the Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art, which houses the world’s most comprehensive collection of works by Louis Comfort Tiffany. Another signature experience is the Winter Park Scenic Boat Tour, which takes visitors through three of the city’s lakes via historic canals. For outdoor relaxation, Central Park serves as a peaceful green space that hosts major annual art festivals and music events. Popular activities here include high-end shopping, taking guided pontoon boat rides through historic canals, browsing farmers markets, exploring fine art galleries, and dining at outdoor sidewalk cafes. Logistically, Winter Park sits roughly 15 miles north of Orlando International Airport (MCO). It is located approximately 18 miles south of Orlando Sanford International Airport (SFB). Reaching the popular shopping and dining venue of Disney Springs requires a drive of about 23 miles down the Interstate 4 corridor. Residents looking for coastal waves can travel roughly 57 miles east to reach Cocoa Beach, the closest Atlantic shore point.
